A very belated new year's post
I barely use LiveJournal anymore, mostly because there are new blogging platforms that better fit my needs, but I do like to keep it as a personal archive and one thing I've been doing every year for the most of the life of this blog is an end-of-the-year questionnaire. It was unfortunately delayed for 2013 because I was busy making these and planning a party with my friend, but I still finished it!!

1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Traveled on a plane by myself, saw Disney World, drove my first solo road trip, understood Shakespeare.

2. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
A larger social circle and maybe a boyfriend.

3. What dates from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Seeing Daniel Torrington at a Lindbergh stoplight, making a mix CD for Daniel Torrington and leaving it on his doorstep at 2 am, there are more but those are really the tops.

4. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Graduating college with honors, seeing every Muny show + Shakespeare in the Park, reading all of Homestuck in two weeks, writing/editing two full-length TV scripts and a bunch of helpful notes and backstories for Gloves Off.

5. What was your biggest failure?
Losing $200 to traffic tickets :/

6. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More job leads and better assurance that I can actually do something with my degree in this town and at this time.

7. How did you spend your summer break?
Cleaning, job-hunting, driving James around, hanging out with Nick and Jacquelyn, Muny shows and Comics U lessons every week, getting addicted to podcasts.

8. Who was the best new person you met?
I reconnected with a high school classmate I hadn't seen in six years and we had some fun outings before she left to teach in Austria for a year. I hope we can pick up where we left off when she comes home this summer!

9. Favorite Night out?
Family bar-hopping for my brother's 21st birthday, followed by midnight cokies.

10. What kept you sane?
Podcasts and my OCs.

11. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
UHHHHHHHHHHHHH

12. What's something you learned about yourself?
I'm happy with my life and I don't need much except the assurance that it's okay to be happy.

13. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Maxi skirts and fandom tees and flower crowns and gold earrings and neckerchiefs

14. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
New podcasts, Orlando, Springfield, fourth annual Christmas Eve cookie delivery, Chelsea and Tommy's offers of fan art, Lauren's novel getting published CAN WE SKIP 2014 AND GO TO 2015 PLEASE

15. What were your obsessions of the year?
PODCASTSSSSSSSSSSS

16. What was your favourite TV program?
Phineas & Ferb, The Venture Bros, Futurama, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls.

17. What was your favourite film of this year?
Frozen? I was also very impressed with Man of Steel. But if it can be any film I've seen for the first time this year, not just few releases, Waiting for Guffman.

18. What was the best book you read?
I'm still emotional about Dragon Soul and as soon as I finished Ptolemy's Gate I wanted to read it again as soon as possible. I'm also rereading all the Lynn Flewelling books and they're even btter than I imagined.

19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
TOO BUSY WITH THE PODCASTS, SORRY.

20. What song will always remind you of 2013?
WHEN THERE'S VARMITS NEED A CATCHIN' AND YOUNGINS NEED A SAVIN' ON MY ROCKET STEED I RACE ACROSS THE STARS
HERE'S TO US, HERE'S TO YOU AND ME, ADD THE BOTTLE AND THAT MAKES THREE
WAITING FOR THE BUS IN THE RAIN IN THE RAIN
YO LISTEN UP, HERE'S THE STORY ABOUT A LITTLE GUY THAT LIVES IN A BLUE WORLD
DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING, SINGING THE SONG OF ANGRY MEN
I'M A MEMBER OF THE MIDNIGHT CREW, I'M A NIGHT OWL AND A WISE BIRD TOO

21. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"It's a reasonable sacrifice."

1: What fandoms did you acquire in 2013?
Thrilling Adventure Hour, Welcome to Night Vale, Homestuck. That one day I read all of Hanna is Not A Boy's Name. I had read the Volstovic Cycle books before this year but this was the first time I found other people who read them. Currently going through a Nightrunner renaissance in anticipation of the seventh book and loving this series more than ever before.

2: What fandoms did you let go of in 2013?
I still haven't watched the last couple episodes of Korra, haaa.

3: What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2013? Why?
The two below, since I didn't want to start something right before the new year.

4: What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2014?
Skullduggery Pleasant, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. What a combo!

5: What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2014 unless things significantly improve?
FAMILY GUY IF YOU DON'T REVEAL THAT BRIAN'S DEATH WAS PART OF SOME WEIRD LONG-CON JOKE I'M GOING TO BE VERY CROSS WITH YOU

6: What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get?
I didn't like Venture Bros season five as much as season four but the show will always be my heart and soul.

7: What show impressed you most in 2013?
Futurama had the best series finale I've ever seen.

In short, 2013 will forever be remembered as the year of the podcasts. I should be getting my Thrilling Adventure Hour shirt soon!

I still check LJ all the time for the two or three friends that still use it, but except for tradition posts like these I've almost entirely switched to Tumblr now. For good or bad, there are just more people there.

I definitely plan on being more productive with my writing this year, further editing on the two scripts I have finished and creating more to fill out the first six or so episodes. I want to share more, collaborate more, and start building a pitch packet.

Hopefully this will be a great year for both of us!! <3

GO FINISH KORRA!!! Lol

I haven't gotten into tumblr. Do you use twitter?
Master Wilky Quizgirlwilky_wit on January 6th, 2014 12:09 am (UTC)
I will! I want to watch all of it at once and whenever I have a block of time that long I usually end up watching a movie with my family instead.

I do have a twitter! https://twitter.com/wilkywit I pretty much use it for what you see, though, it's my virtual parade of quips. I'm starting to post more writing on my tumblr here, which you're welcome to look through even if you're not a site user.

I just added you on twitter. I'll look into tumblr. Is there an easy way to follow it without signimg up?
Master Wilky Quizgirlwilky_wit on January 6th, 2014 12:21 am (UTC)
Hmmm. I don't think it does RSS feeds or notifications, but it is very easy to change your blog and username around (not like on LJ where you have to buy a rename token) so you could always make a quick temporary account for any friends you want to follow and just never post anything yourself if you don't want to, and then have the opportunity to rework your page later if you decide it's something you're interested in.

OH YEAH I haven't watched the last few episodes of Korra either, oop.

Also, I need someone to summarize Homestuck so I can at least somewhat grasp the references *hint hint*

I marathoned all of them the other night. I like the characters but they're just so angsty all the time, except for Bolin, whose otherwise-charming goofy sweetness makes him seem out of place with the rest of the cast. And the social entanglements drama : life-or-death villainous threat drama ratio is a bit off for me. But it looks like they've settled a good chunk of that social drama and the set-up for the next season looks interesting!

I started a summary but then I put it in my drafts to finish later and forgot about it, ha. I'll post it later today!

I think what hurts Korra the most is that it's expected to live up to the wonder that is ATLA, and it just...doesn't.

But I will watch the eps I missed eventually!
